Description:

Senior Experimental Physicist

Novocure is a global publicly-traded commercial-stage oncology company developing a profoundly different cancer treatment therapy called tumor treating fields (TTFields) for patients with solid tumors. TTFields therapy is a non-invasive, novel, antimitotic treatment modality that utilizes proprietary technology attempting to slow or reverse tumor progression by inducing tumor cell death.

Novocure's commercialized product, Optune, is approved for the treatment of adult patients with glioblastoma (GBM) in the USA, Europe, and Israel.

Novocure has ongoing or completed clinical trials and is further expanding its efforts into several other solid tumor indications - non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, and other types of solid cancers.

We are looking for a Senior Experimental Physicist who will join our physics group that is leading an effort to develop a new field of research:  Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) dosimetry and treatment planning, and currently specializes in numerical simulations, physical algorithms, data analysis and biophysics-based research.

The  Senior Experimental Physicist will drive and perform experimental research and development at the interface of physics and medicine, in the rapidly developing field of TTFields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the experimental research and development activities in the group, with a focus on TTFields delivery optimization and simulation validation.
  • Develop the experimental methods and infrastructure for:
    • Validation of electrical and heat-transfer simulations.
    • Characterization of electric properties of tissues.
    • Development of physical phantoms for the investigation of electric field and thermal distributions.
  • Participate in research and development collaborations with internal groups of engineers and scientists, and with external researchers from academia.
  • Present results at internal meetings, seminars, and external scientific conferences; contribute to writing scientific papers and patent applications.
  • Participate and support team efforts to develop the next generations of devices and treatment-panning platforms for TTFields therapy.
  • Actively support other R&D activities in the physics team, including fundamental research in theoretical biophysics and dosimetry.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics/ Medical Physics/ Mechanical Engineering (thermal aspects)/ Biomedical Engineering/ Electro-Optics/ Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Knowledge:
  • Proven ability to perform research and development in experimental physics.
  • Research experience in industry or academia (post-doc) is an advantage.
  • Experimental background in medical physics, interactions of electric fields with the human body, and/or heat transfer in biological tissues is an advantage.
  • Team player capable of working in a multi-disciplinary environment involving physicists, engineers, biologists and physicians.
  • Highly creative, data-driven, and multitasking, with a proactive can-do attitude.
  • Proficiency in coding in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience in Comsol Multiphysics, preferably with a focus on Heat Transfer and/or AC/DC modules is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Hebrew
