JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Human Factors Engineer will be a highly motivated individual who will use their in-depth knowledge of human factors design principles and usability testing methods to lead human factors engineering activities for product development programs. This leader work closely with a diverse team of engineers in a dynamic, fast-paced environment to lay the groundwork of a new generation of products and services that result in a frictionless customer experience.      

 

This is a full time, exempt position, with significant flexibility for work from home office, with occasional commute to the Portsmouth, NH office.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direction for development of protocols, study designs, plans and oversees study execution and vendor management, if applicable, for all human factors activities throughout the product development lifecycle including: heuristic evaluations, voice-of-the-customer user research, exploratory concept development, and formative and summative human factor studies.
  • Support Product Management and Development Engineering personnel in establishing Human Factors and usability-related requirements for new products and product line extensions
  • Represent the Human Factors/Usability Engineering function on core teams
  • Ensures that user capabilities and limitations and their associated use-related risks are appropriately addressed in planning, requirements development, and risk management
  • Assist management in ensuring that Novocure design, testing, documentation and regulatory submittal activities are fully compliant with and reflect best-practices with respect to the implementation of all relevant medical device human factors standards and guidance documents
  • Well versed in broader concepts like human centered design thinking, to drive innovation at the intersection of user needs, technology and the operating environment
  • Collaborate with internal & external parties in planning, structuring, recruiting for, executing and documenting formative and summative usability evaluations
  • Deliver and coach high quality specifications, design control and risk management deliverables
  • Use significant expertise in design thinking, human factors and usability engineering to design products and solutions used by patients in the area of cancer treatment
  • Ability to analyze data both qualitatively and quantitatively, prepare detailed reports and presentations to support final design proposal

 

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ year experience working in human factors development of medical devices and their regulatory requirements OR advanced degrees in human factors, usability engineering, industrial design, or related field with 5+ years’ experience
  • Superior understanding of and experience with relevant industry standards and guidance’s (IEC 62366-1, ISO 14971, ANSI/AAMI HE75, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, IEC 60601) and FDA guidances
  • Demonstrated capability in the development of usability study protocols and reports including usability root cause analysis and risk benefit analysis
  • Experience leading formative and summative usability evaluations (structuring, recruiting for, conducting, and reporting on), especially involving class II or III medical devices
  • Excellent technical communication skills and attention to detail, including creating and editing technical research, analyses, protocols, and reports
  • Detailed understanding of system, electrical, and mechanical design, as well as software integration
  • Ability to work independently and resolve cross functional issues independently
  • Work successfully with teams in different time zones and cultures
  • Experience with APAC and EU MDR regulatory requirements is a bonus.

 

OTHER:

  • Up to 10-20% travel (domestic and international) may be required, when it is safe to do so
  • Commute to Portsmouth, NH office on an as needed basis
