Novocure is a global publicly-traded commercial-stage oncology company developing a profoundly different cancer treatment therapy called tumor treating fields (TTFields) for patients with solid tumors. TTFields therapy is a non-invasive, novel, antimitotic treatment modality which utilizes proprietary technology attempting to slow or reverse tumor progression by inducing tumor cell death. Novocure's commercialized product, Optune, is approved for the treatment of adult patients with glioblastoma (GBM) in the USA, Europe and Israel. Novocure has ongoing or completed clinical trials and is further expanding its efforts into several other solid tumor indications - non-small cell lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer and other types of solid cancers. 


To manage all payroll related activities across EMEA, we are looking for a


Manager, Payroll EMEA


The Manager, Payroll EMEA is responsible for the overall operation of the EMEA payroll function (e.g. currently Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Sweden and The Netherlands), including payroll coordination and processing through third-party vendors. Additionally the Manager, Payroll EMEA supports the further expansion into new regions and compensation and benefits related topics. The position can either be based in Munich, Germany or Root, Switzerland.



Your responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all payroll activities within EMEA (currently 173 employees in Switzerland, 102 employees in Germany, 9 in Austria, 19 in France, 12 in Sweden, 3 in the Netherlands and new countries as of Q2/Q3) according to applicable laws and regulations (with support of an external payroll provider), including:
    • monthly payroll processes
    • month-end close activities
    • year-end activities (e.g. various declarations, annual salary statements for Switzerland, Beschäftigungsbonus / Deckungsprüfung for Austria, Training & Apprentices Tax for France and Künstler Sozialkasse & Schwerbehindertenabgabe for Germany)
  • To support the expansion within EMEA into new regions, payroll set-up of new locations
  • Anticipate with the local payroll providers that all mandatory local requirements are met and that legal changes are implemented on the go
  • To manage social insurances, accident and daily sickness insurance, taxes
  • To support the development, implementation and administration of compensation and benefits initiatives and the annual salary review process
  • To partner with the HR BP, HR Admin Team and global Compensation & Benefits Team, e.g. support of the rollout of the company’s equity plan within EMEA (taxation etc.)
  • Reporting (e.g. vacation and overtime accruals, overhead costs, pay ratio), provide key information to internal stakeholders
  • Lead the auditing of Payroll activities (e.g. SOX, OR, Social Security)
  • To ensure data quality in the HR IT Systems 
  • To respond to payroll queries in a timely manner and in a way that aligns with our values
  • To proactively optimize processes and operations in order to comply with internal and external policies and regulations and improve our ways of working (state-of-the-art payroll processes)
  • To lead and support global projects or trainings within the area of expertise
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external stakeholders across the organization on a global level
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned



Your profile:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business or Commercial Apprenticeship and further education in HR or equivalent qualification / work experience.
  • Several years of experience in the payroll and/or compensation & benefits field within EMEA
  • Ideally 3-5 years of experience in managing payroll activities across multiple EU countries and managing outsourced payroll providers
  • Leadership skills are a plus
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple competing priorities in a fast paced multicultural and rapidly changing environment
  • Good knowledge of employment law, socials insurances and tax regulations
  • Advanced Excel and reporting knowledge, Abacus and SuccessFactors is a plus
  • Demonstrates initiative and has problem solving mindset with hands on attitude when it comes to investigate and find solutions
  • Strong team player with hands-on mentality, service-oriented, analytical and detail-oriented working style
  • Maintaining and influencing the relationships with key internal and external partners
  • Strong language skills in German and English
