Legal Counsel, Italy

As Legal Counsel, Italy, you will be a trusted legal partner to our business in Italy, providing practical, commercially focused advice across a broad range of legal matters. Your primary focus will include healthcare tenders and public procurement, employment law, commercial agreements and general corporate legal support, while also contributing to matters across other European markets as business needs require.

This is a role with significant autonomy and ownership. Working independently and at a distance from your manager, you will be expected to take matters forward, exercise sound judgment and build strong relationships with senior business stakeholders. We are looking for someone who is comfortable constructively challenging the business when needed, can confidently explain legal risks and recommendations, and combines high-quality legal thinking with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will work closely with business leaders and colleagues across Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Brand, HR and Finance to enable business objectives while appropriately managing legal risk.

• Serve as a trusted legal partner to stakeholders in Italy and other European markets, providing pragmatic, timely and solution-oriented advice on commercial and operational matters.
• Provide legal support relating to healthcare tenders and public procurement regulations, applying your understanding of the life sciences environment to business needs.
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial, consulting, service, confidentiality and other business agreements.
• Partner with the European HR organization on employment law matters, with a primary focus on Italy, including employment agreements, employee-related matters and cross-functional projects.
• Support business initiatives and projects by identifying legal risks and developing practical mitigation strategies that enable informed business decisions.
• Assist with selected Italian and European corporate governance and corporate secretarial matters, including routine documentation and filings.
• Collaborate across Legal functions, including Compliance, Privacy and Brand, as well as with HR, Finance and other business functions.
• Coordinate with external legal counsel when appropriate to obtain timely, high-quality and cost-effective advice.
• Work proactively and independently, taking ownership of matters while recognizing when complex or higher-risk issues should be escalated.
• Contribute to improvements in legal templates, processes, contract practices and knowledge sharing across the Legal function.

ABOUT YOU

Minimum Requirement:

• Law degree from an Italian university.
• Approximately 5 years of relevant experience as a corporate/commercial lawyer, gained in a law firm and/or in-house legal function.
• Experience in the life sciences sector, with a solid understanding of public procurement regulations.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and providing practical legal support to business stakeholders.
• Fluent written and spoken English and Italian.
• Ability to operate autonomously and proactively, take ownership of legal matters and act as a strong business partner.
• Sound judgment and the confidence to provide clear, independent legal guidance and constructively challenge business stakeholders when necessary.

These additional qualifications are preferred:

• Experience with employment law and/or corporate governance matters.
• Experience supporting legal matters across more than one jurisdiction.
• Additional European language skills.
• Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills, with a commercial and service-oriented mindset.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt in a changing environment.
• A learning mindset and willingness to continue developing your expertise while working in a demanding, collaborative environment.

WHAT WE OFFER

This pay range which Novocure expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting is €60,000–€75,000 EUR. This position may also be eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant in addition to a full range of benefits. Individual compensation within this range depends on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, prior education and experience, job-related knowledge and skills demonstrated.

NOVOFLEX

This role is currently remote-based in Italy. As Novocure establishes a new office location, potentially in Milan, the role will transition to our NOVOFLEX hybrid working model outlined below.

We offer a flexible, trust-based hybrid working model for most of our office-based roles. Employees are asked to be in the office an average of three days per week, with the flexibility to choose which days’ work best for them. We understand that life is not always predictable, so if you need to adjust your schedule, such as leaving early or starting late occasionally, we trust you to balance your time in a way that works for both you and Novocure.
