Haifa, IL, 3508504
Linux & HPC Systems Engineer
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a hands-on Linux & HPC Systems Engineer to join our Treatment Planning and Digital Applications department in Haifa.
In this role, you will take ownership of the Linux-based High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure that supports our algorithm development activities. You will work across physical Linux servers, GPU compute nodes, workload scheduling, and shared storage, ensuring the environment remains reliable, efficient, and ready to support the team’s evolving needs.
This is a practical, infrastructure-focused role for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, solving problems at their root, and taking responsibility beyond simply keeping things running. You will collaborate closely with algorithm developers and other technical colleagues, helping them make effective use of the computing environment. You will also contribute to Docker-based deployments and support Azure infrastructure, with opportunities to expand into additional DevOps activities.
Success in this role means becoming a trusted technical partner to the team: understanding the environment, independently resolving day-to-day infrastructure challenges, and continuously improving the reliability and usability of the systems that support algorithm development.
This is a full-time position based mainly on-site at our Haifa office, reporting to the Algorithms Team Lead.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take ownership of the day-to-day administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our on-premises Linux-based HPC environment.
- Monitor system health and resource utilization across CPU, memory, and disk I/O, identifying and addressing performance or availability issues.
- Maintain Linux server configurations, apply system updates and kernel patches, and manage user accounts, permissions, and SSH access.
- Administer shared storage (e.g., NFS, Samba, BeeGFS), covering capacity monitoring, quotas, and backups.
- Administer SLURM workload manager, including partitions, queues, and fair-share policies, to help ensure effective use of computing resources.
- Maintain GPU compute nodes, including NVIDIA drivers, CUDA, GPU scheduling, and GPU-enabled containers.
- Automate recurring administrative tasks and system checks using Bash, Python, or similar scripting tools, and support configuration management using Ansible.
- Perform hands-on hardware maintenance and troubleshooting, including server installation, component replacement, and coordination with external vendors.
- Create, maintain, and optimize Docker-based environments and support containerized application deployments.
- Troubleshoot issues across systems, applications, networking, and infrastructure, working collaboratively with the relevant technical teams.
- Support the DevOps team with Azure infrastructure and contribute to the introduction and adoption of tools that address evolving infrastructure needs.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and practical troubleshooting procedures, helping the team operate and support its environment effectively.
- Contribute, as needed, to CI/CD pipelines, ML workflow support, and backend services.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in Linux systems administration or DevOps.
- Strong hands-on experience administering multi-server, physical Linux environments. You understand how to troubleshoot systems beyond the application layer.
- Experience with network file systems such as NFS or Samba, and a solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Practical experience with Docker and familiarity with configuration management or Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible.
- Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or a similar language, with an interest in automating repetitive work and improving operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools, virtual machines, and physical server hardware.
- A proactive, methodical approach to troubleshooting, with the ability to investigate problems, identify root causes, and follow through on solutions.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to support algorithm developers and researchers with different levels of infrastructure knowledge.
The following experience will be an advantage:
- Administration or support of HPC environments and workload managers such as SLURM.
- Experience with GPU computing, including NVIDIA drivers and CUDA.
- Familiarity with parallel file systems such as BeeGFS, Lustre, or similar technologies.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, including compute, storage, networking, identity and access management, and containerized deployments.
- Exposure to CI/CD tools such as GitLab or Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, Kubernetes, or MLOps.
- Experience with Python/Flask or backend services.
You do not need to have worked with every technology listed above. We are particularly interested in someone with strong Linux fundamentals, hands-on infrastructure experience, a sense of ownership, and the curiosity to learn and grow into the wider environment.
